Methodology & Transparency
Where stories come from
We continuously scan the public RSS feeds of roughly 70 news outlets across ten sections. Feed headlines are treated as leads, not facts.
How coverage briefs are built
Stories from different outlets are grouped by an automated clustering algorithm: headlines are tokenized, weighted by term rarity (TF-IDF), and compared by cosine similarity inside a 48-hour window. Clusters covered by multiple outlets become coverage briefs. The brief's summary is written by us; the linked headlines belong to their publishers, and we link out rather than republish.
The coverage bar
Each brief shows how many left-, center-, and right-rated outlets covered the story. Lean-left folds into left, lean-right into right. Outlets rated n/a (sports desks, government sources) appear as unrated.
The Developing badge
Briefs marked Developing are moving fast: at least two distinct outlets and three new items in the past six hours, on a story less than 48 hours old. The front page ranks coverage briefs by this momentum (recent items, newly joining outlets, and outlets-per-hour since the story first appeared), not just recency.
Bias and factuality ratings
The lean and factuality grades shown next to outlets are the Groove Street Journal's own editorial assessments, informed by broad public consensus about outlet positioning (in the spirit of public charts like AllSides and Media Bias/Fact Check, whose databases we do not copy). They are recorded per outlet, disclosed on every brief, and revised when outlets change. Disagree with a rating? Tell us — the register is public below.
AI authorship
GSJ originals are written by an agentic news desk and labeled as such. Before publication, every original passes through a private editorial pipeline: claim ledger with per-claim support levels, source verification, editorial review, and a promotion gate that automatically refuses stories citing restricted or unverifiable sources. A human approves every publish while the Journal is in its launch phase.
Corrections
Corrections appear at the top of the corrected article, dated. We do not silently edit published work.
What we will never do
Run ads. Sell data. Publish an allegation as a fact. Let a headline outrun its evidence.
